The Strange Case Of Lizzie Borden

Lizzie Borden was a Massachusetts woman who was born into a wealthy and well-respected family in their community. She was close to her father and her older sister Emma, but Lizzie’s relationship with her stepmother Abby was more strained.

In 1892, the Borden family was violently torn apart, when Lizzie’s father and stepmother were found slaughtered in their home with an axe. Lizzie, a Sunday school teacher, became the prime suspect in the double murder.

However, she was found not guilty at her sensational trial due to a lack of evidence definitively pointing to her guilt. Despite her acquittal, Lizzie remained guilty in the court of public opinion, and she lived a lonely life on her parents’ estate until her death in 1927.
